I recently came across Dr. Nabaruna Karmakar's case, and it got me thinking about the role her profession might have played in her personal life. Being a successful engineer and researcher, she often worked in demanding environments. It's not uncommon for high achievers like her to face immense pressure, both professionally and personally. I wonder if this pressure somehow contributed to tensions at home. Of course, this doesn't excuse any alleged actions by her husband, but understanding the dynamics might shed light on the situation. It's truly devastating to see someone with so much potential and kindness leave us so soon. My thoughts are with her colleagues at SAS and the students she might have mentored during her time at NC State. Those who knew her must be grappling with an immense loss. Let's hope her story ignites important conversations about supporting those in high-pressure careers and encourages us to look after our mental well-being, as well as those around us.
