Did anyone else attend the vigil held for Kevin Dale Smith at the community center last week? I've been thinking about how deeply moving it was to see so many people come together to honor his memory. The stories shared by his friends and family really highlighted the kind of person he was—full of kindness and laughter. It's such a stark contrast to the violence that took him from this world. I left the vigil with a heavy heart but also a sense of community strength and unity. It feels like the neighborhood is really trying to channel their grief into positive action. I'm hopeful that these discussions will lead to more awareness and perhaps some much-needed changes in how we tackle gun violence.
