I just can't stop thinking about the increase in homicides we've seen this year in Winston-Salem. The numbers are alarming, and unfortunately, Devontay Atkins is now part of those grim statistics. It's devastating to consider the impact on his loved ones—losing someone so young and so violently. I wonder if there's more that can be done on a community level to address this rise in violence. Are there any grassroots initiatives or programs in Winston-Salem focusing on conflict resolution or youth outreach? We can't just keep accepting this as the new normal. Would love to hear if anyone has seen effective local efforts or has ideas on how we might help prevent more tragedies like this one.
