Has anyone else been following the case of Charles Ashe Jr.? I can't get over the fact that first responders were already on-site for a different call when the shooting happened. It makes me wonder how much worse it could've been if they weren't already there. What a chaotic and terrifying scene it must have been for everyone involved. My heart goes out to Ashe's friends and family—I can't imagine how they're coping with such a sudden loss. It also makes me think about all the times I've felt safe in a space just like that, not realizing how quickly things can go wrong. Do you think having rescue personnel already present might have influenced the outcome in any significant way?

It's tough to piece together how events unfolded the night at the Falls Church Marriott, but one thing that really stands out to me is the role of Charles's friends. After the shooting, despite the panic and chaos, they managed to carry him toward the elevators, showing such bravery and selflessness in an overwhelming moment. Losing a friend in such a shocking way must be incredibly difficult, and their courage in trying to help speaks volumes about the bond they shared with Charles. They were likely hoping against hope that getting him to a more visible area would increase his chances of survival, especially with Fire and Rescue already being on-site. My heart goes out to them and, of course, to Charles’s family. Such a senseless act of violence leaves scars that extend far beyond the immediate loss.
