I’ve been following this story closely and can't stop thinking about how terrifying it must have been for the children in the house during the attack. Though they weren't physically harmed, I can’t imagine the level of trauma they’ve been through witnessing such violence. My heart goes out to them as they begin to process and heal from this tragedy. It’s reassuring to know that their family and community are rallying around them, but the road to recovery will likely be long and challenging. I hope the GoFundMe helps ease some of the burden on Bernie's family as they navigate this unimaginable situation. If anyone feels inclined, supporting them financially or just sending positive thoughts their way could make a huge difference. Let’s keep those kids and the whole family in our thoughts. ?

Hey everyone, I've been following the heartbreaking events in Highland Township and was particularly touched by Bernard "Bernie" Bugnell's story. I wanted to discuss a less talked-about aspect: the response by the Oakland County Sheriff's deputies. From what I've read, they responded incredibly quickly and were faced with an unimaginably tense situation. I can't imagine the kind of pressure they must have been under, especially knowing children were in the home. Their swift action likely prevented an already tragic situation from becoming even worse, as they had to make a split-second decision to protect Bernie's family. It's hard to think about the difficulty of their job and the trauma that likely comes with it. Just as Bernie's family has lost a pillar, these deputies might have to deal with the emotional aftermath of this day for a long time to come. This case really highlights how important and challenging the work of law enforcement can be, and it makes me grateful for those who put themselves in harm's way to keep others safe. My heart goes out to everyone involved, especially the children, who didn't lose just one family member, but had their lives changed in an instant. Stay safe, everyone. Hug your loved ones tight. ~ Emily
