Does anyone else feel like the issue of firearm safety and accessibility to minors isn't being addressed thoroughly enough? With the tragic loss of Donald Hogan, it’s becoming painfully clear that something needs to change. His untimely death has left a massive hole in the lives of his family, who saw his future as incredibly promising. Moving to a new city and setting new roots is never easy, yet Donald seemed to have embraced that challenge and was thriving both academically and on the basketball court. It's just so troubling to think about how one moment of carelessness with a firearm can irreversibly alter lives. I can't help but wonder how the gun ended up in their hands in the first place. The fact that no charges have been filed might speak to the complexities surrounding accidental shootings, but it raises questions on accountability and firearm security. How do we, as a community, better educate and prevent these horrible incidents from repeating? I definitely think more conversations and action on safe gun storage could be a start. Thoughts?
