I just came across the case of Kandi RoyAnn Henderson, and I've been thinking about how her story sheds light on the broader issue of domestic violence. It's so important to remember that Kandi's death is part of a larger pattern that's shockingly prevalent in Columbus right now. The data showing a rise in domestic violence-related deaths can’t be ignored. In reading about the indictment of Stephan Turner, I can't help but feel for Kandi's family and friends who are now left to pick up the pieces. It must be incredibly difficult for them to grapple with the reality of losing someone so loved in such a devastating way. The generosity Kandi showed to her friends, like opening her home to Rasheda Haile, speaks volumes about the kind of person she was. Organizations like LSS CHOICES are doing vital work by providing resources and support, but it seems clear we as a community need to do more to prevent these tragedies. Do any Columbus locals know if there are ongoing community efforts to address domestic violence? I think more awareness and support could be a step toward preventing future losses like Kandi's.
