Hey everyone,
I've been following Teresa Gomez's case closely and something that's really bothering me is how this incident highlights the critical need for effective police training on de-escalation techniques. From what I understand, the interaction between Officer Hernandez and Teresa turned tense very quickly, ending in such a tragic outcome.
I'm just wondering, shouldn't there be more stringent protocols or training initiatives that focus on peaceful resolutions, especially in situations like this? It's 2023, and it feels like we're still grappling with issues that should have been addressed long ago. Other departments around the country have successfully implemented de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies—Las Cruces really needs to consider this.
I truly feel for her family. No one should lose a loved one in such a senseless manner. Hoping for some positive changes to arise from this tragedy.
What do you all think about training and oversight in law enforcement? Could this prevent similar incidents from happening in the future?
Stay safe, everyone.
