I’ve been thinking a lot about Maykool Regino-Perez's background and what brought him to Las Vegas before this tragedy occurred. It’s always poignant to learn that someone so young was building a life in a new place before it was all abruptly taken away. Maykool moved from Mexico to Las Vegas—a city full of bright lights and big dreams. I can't help but wonder about the new friendships he formed and the aspirations he had. It's so saddening to realize that his journey here was cut short. It seems like there's this tragic pattern where young people are unable to disentangle themselves from senseless violence, especially when emotions run high. Has anyone read or heard more about whether there are community initiatives in place to help young adults manage conflicts more peaceably? Almost feels like we need more spaces for youth to safely express and cope with their feelings, and maybe situations like this might have different outcomes. Sending so much love to Maykool’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. His story shouldn't just end this way, and I hope we can learn something from this devastating loss.
