Has anyone else been following the Tremé double homicide case? I was reading about how Ahmontae was so looking forward to the second line on that day. It's just devastating to think that he was planning to enjoy an event filled with music and community, only for it to end in tragedy. The second line is such an integral part of New Orleans culture, and it’s heartbreaking to see how violence invaded that space. The thought of Ahmontae, who loved to dance and dress well, having his life cut short in such a brutal manner is truly saddening. And Layla, an innocent bystander, losing her life while simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time... My heart aches for her family. Starting that memorial scholarship is a beautiful way to honor her, but it must be so difficult for them to move forward. I hope the NOPD can find whoever did this and bring some semblance of justice to the families. They deserve answers.

Hey everyone, I've been following the case of Ahmontae Wishom and Layla Scott, and it just breaks my heart to think about how this kind of violence can leave such a lasting scar on families and communities. I was reading about how the shooting happened during a second-line event. It's just devastating to see such a vibrant cultural gathering marred by violence. It got me thinking about how important these community events are for bringing people together in celebration, and it's just so tragic when they become scenes of such sorrow. I really hope that this won’t overshadow the spirit of unity these events are meant to foster. It's a reminder to treasure those joyful moments and stand with each other, especially for the families affected. Sending love and strength to everyone grieving and to the entire Tremé community during this unimaginably difficult time. Let's hope for peace and justice. Love to hear others' thoughts or experiences with second-line events and how we might work to ensure safety while preserving such a rich tradition.
