I stumbled upon a detail in the Orie Dodson case that really made me stop and think. It's been on my mind since I read about how Orie snuck out to do that Instagram live. As adults, we know the potential dangers lurking online, but for kids, sometimes it doesn’t feel real until something like this happens. It's shocking how a simple act like a social media post can spiral into such a tragedy.
It’s worth discussing how much more education we need around the impact and permanence of online actions, especially for kids who are just learning to navigate these waters. I can’t imagine the pain his family must be feeling, knowing something so minor led to such a horrific outcome. This case should be a wake-up call for parents, educators, and kids about the real-world consequences of online arguments.
What resources or programs are available that teach kids about the dangers of social media disputes turning violent? It's so crucial that we keep talking about this. My heart goes out to Orie's family, and I hope we can find more ways to prevent another senseless act like this from happening again.
