I can't stop thinking about the phone call between Niolis and her sister Mia. It must have been a terrifying and surreal experience for Mia to hear the gunshot and then Niolis's screams before the call cut off. I can’t even imagine the anguish Mia must’ve felt in that moment. It’s truly devastating to think about what both sisters went through during those final seconds. It really makes you think about how fragile life can be and how one moment can change everything. Niolis was doing so much good, shaping young lives and giving back to her community, and it breaks my heart to see this happen to someone so dedicated. It's important that we continue to support Mia and the rest of Niolis's family during this incredibly difficult time, not just through the justice system but also emotionally. They’ll need their community more than ever now.
