LaTonya Byrd's passing has been on my mind recently. When I think about her, I'm reminded of the countless lives in Chicago impacted by the scourge of gun violence, yet each story feels uniquely painful. With so little known about what led to her demise, I can't help but wonder about the ripple effects on those she left behind. Her family and friends are likely craving answers and justice, but seem to be met with silence. In cases like these, it’s crucial for the community to rally around those who are grieving. I keep hoping that law enforcement is working diligently behind the scenes and that one day soon, they'll be able to provide some closure to LaTonya’s loved ones. In the meantime, it serves as a harsh reminder of the work still needed to make our neighborhoods safe. How can we, as a community, better support families in situations like this while also pushing for lasting change?
