I just can’t get over how close this tragedy hit to home. The fact that Diego was shot right across from his old elementary school, Hammond, is just incredibly upsetting. As someone who grew up in the area, I remember how much time we all spent after school laughing and hanging out around there. It should be a place full of memories and joy, not violence and fear. Diego's dreams and aspirations were just beginning to take shape, and now we'll never see the amazing things he would've accomplished. My heart goes out to his family, who must be crushed by this unexpected loss. Losing a child is something no family should endure, especially under such tragic circumstances. I'm really hoping that the investigation moves quickly and that justice is served. No one should have to live with the pain of losing a loved one this way. The community needs to come together more than ever and push for the changes needed to ensure safety for the future generations.
