I’ve been thinking a lot about Sanchez James’s role in the community of East St. Louis. From what I’ve heard, he was more than just a resident; he was someone deeply engaged in local activities. It's such a loss when someone who is involved in their community is taken so suddenly. It’s not just his family feeling this; it’s everyone around him who knew him. From neighbors to church members, everyone felt his positive presence. I attended the visitation service at Mt. Zion M.B. Church, and it was clear how many lives he touched. People shared stories about Sanchez always being willing to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word. It’s just terribly sad to think that those moments and actions have been cut short. His passing certainly highlights the urgent need for addressing gun violence in communities like ours. My heart goes out to his family, especially his dad and kids, who are grappling with this loss. Holding space for them during this incredibly difficult time.
