I'm TanyaW87 and have been following Sonya Massey's case closely. It's been heavy on my heart, especially as someone who's also from Illinois. I've been reflecting a lot on the communication breakdown that appears to have played a role here. The fact that the deputies were not informed of Sonya's mental health call just a day earlier is incredibly concerning. Communication in emergency response situations is so critical, and when it fails, the consequences can be devastating, as we've seen here. It leaves so many questions about how dispatch protocols are set up and whether there are gaps that allow such crucial information to fall through the cracks. For Sonya's family, who already expressed concerns the day before, this must feel like a massive violation of trust. They reached out for help, expecting protection and understanding, and instead, it ended in tragedy. I hope significant changes emerge from this to prevent it from happening again. My thoughts are with Sonya's loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
