I've been thinking a lot about the safety concerns people have been expressing after Jose's tragic murder. It's frightening to think about how common gun violence has become in Chicago, and it makes you question what more can be done to protect people in our communities. I really feel for Jose's family—no one should have to endure losing a loved one in such a violent way. I saw that their GoFundMe page had some touching messages, and it’s heartening to see folks coming together in difficult times. But beyond financial support, I hope we can all push for more action and conversation about how to prevent these senseless acts from happening.
