I've been following the Navy Pier shooting case, and something I keep thinking about is the role of workplace security. It's so deeply upsetting that someone could return to their place of work and commit such a horrific act. I wonder what kind of security measures Levy Restaurants and Navy Pier had in place prior to this tragedy and how they intend to strengthen them moving forward. It's terrifying to think that Raylon East could just walk back into a restricted area dressed in his old uniform. My thoughts are with the families of Lamont Johnson and Peter Jennings—they have suffered an unimaginable loss. I hope this tragic event pushes for some serious discussions about improving safety protocols to prevent anything like this from happening again.
