I’ve been following the case of Kathleen Callahan and her son Birch, and my heart goes out to their family during such an incredibly difficult time. I’ve been particularly struck by the detail that Birch’s father in Connecticut initiated the well-being check. It hits home how small gestures, like a missed phone call for a birthday, can sometimes signal something more serious. It must have been a devastating experience for Birch’s father to realize something was amiss from so far away and make that call. I can't imagine the emotions he must be feeling—guilt, frustration, and sadness all mixed in. It's a tragic reminder of how important it is to stay connected with our loved ones, and how distance can really complicate those relationships. I hope he and the rest of the family have a strong support network to help them navigate through this.
