I’ve been following the tragic case of Nancy Ann Mascareñas, and it just hits me how someone could be in the wrong place at the wrong time or know the wrong person, and it turns into something so devastating. I couldn’t help but think about her journey from Clovis, NM to Colorado Springs. Did she have friends there? Was it a quick trip or was she staying longer? It seems like her life and story was just uprooted and ended in a place she might have been unfamiliar with. I’m heart aches for her family, who must be trying to comprehend not just the loss but the circumstances under which it happened. Also, can’t imagine what it’s like for the Colorado Springs community, knowing this is the 13th homicide there this year. It's such a tight-knit place—bet the sense of safety feels shaken for them too. Does anyone know if there were any connections between her and Gilbert Lopez prior to this? It makes you wonder about the particulars that lead to such a tragic outcome. My thoughts are with Nancy’s loved ones; I hope justice brings them some form of peace.
