I was reading about Jack Coogan Smith's disappearance from Elk Lake back in '72 and couldn't stop thinking about something specific. Has anyone heard about any local legends or folklore in that area? Small towns can sometimes have stories that get passed down loosely, especially involving the wilderness. Just wondering if there’s a chance people at the time might have been influenced or spooked by any local legends? It's a long shot, but anything that might have led or hindered the search efforts back then could be worth looking into. Any insight or even just thoughts from locals familiar with the area would be appreciated.
