Hey everyone,
I was going through old missing persons cases, and I was struck by Patrick William Ratchford's. I’m particularly fascinated by the fact that he intended to hitch a ride on Highway 144. In 1974, hitchhiking was quite common, but it did carry inherent risks, especially in remote areas like Northern Ontario.
Does anyone have insights on how common it was for people to disappear while hitchhiking back then? I’m curious if there were other similar cases in that region during that time, where travelers vanished as mysteriously as Patrick did. It's unsettling to think of the dangers involved in something that seemed like an ordinary part of travel back then. Would love to hear thoughts or if anyone else has done any deep dives into cases like this from that era.
Could the landscape and isolation have made it easier for something sinister to happen unnoticed? Also, if any locals have stories or legends about the area, please share!
Looking forward to any insights you might have. Thanks!
