I remember hearing an old story about Philip through my grandparents who lived in Kimberley during the 60s. The whole town was on edge back then, and even now, the mention of his name brings a somber feeling. Kimberley isn’t a bustling metropolis where someone can just disappear without a trace, so the thought of anyone vanishing was—and still is—unsettling.
What has always puzzled me is the timing of the kidnapping coinciding with the Porter family's impending move. Do you think someone local or a disgruntled employee knew about the family’s situation and targeted him for this reason? The fact that the ransom note wasn't specific about the father’s work or their pending move makes me wonder if it could have been an opportunistic crime rather than something meticulously planned. It’s strange that nothing’s come to light after all these years despite the attention the case got initially, especially with those mine shafts around. I’d love to hear any new theories or information anyone has heard over time.
