I've always found the cases where someone just vanishes without a trace so puzzling, and Harley John Metherel's disappearance definitely ranks high on that list. What catches my attention is the bit about the unclaimed money transfer. There are just so many questions popping up in my mind: Was he unable to pick it up? Did something happen to him before he got the chance? Or was he maybe planning to disappear intentionally, but something stopped him from following through with his plan to get the money? Also, Vancouver in the 1980s was a pretty bustling place with its own set of challenges and dangers. Is it possible that Harley met with foul play or got involved with people he shouldn't have? It's just strange that after reaching out at Christmas, he vanished completely. If anyone has insights or theories about what the scene in Vancouver was like back then or similar cases from around that time, it might help connect some dots, no matter how small.
