This case has been weighing heavily on my mind, and I keep coming back to how Mary Smeal was described in her obituary—as a deeply faithful person. It’s just so hard to reconcile that image with the violence of her death. What I find especially revealing is the impact she must have had on her community, considering all the expressions of sorrow and remembrance from her church and friends. It’s clear she touched many lives with her kindness and faith. I can’t imagine what her parents, David and the rest of her family, are going through. Does anyone know if there are support efforts happening locally in Flagstaff to help the community heal? My heart truly goes out to everyone affected by this tragic event.

I can’t stop thinking about how deeply this tragedy impacted Mary Smeal's family and friends. It’s unimaginable to lose someone so suddenly and violently. From what I’ve read and heard, Mary was a beacon of light to those who knew her. Her strong faith seemed to inspire everyone around her. It's chilling to think about the last moments in her home, a place that should have been safe and filled with warmth. I hope her loved ones find some comfort in the memories of her strength and kindness. Rest in peace, Mary. It's a reminder for us all to reach out to those we care about and hold them close. Sending love and strength to her parents and family.
