It's truly distressing to see how often gun violence takes away men and women in the prime of their lives. Hearing about Roy M. Uriarte and his untimely death in Guadalupe hits hard, especially knowing that yet another community is grieving the loss of someone who was likely a father, brother, or friend. Places like Guadalupe, while small, have such tight-knit communities where everyone knows each other, so I can only imagine the ripple effect this tragedy has had on those who were close to Roy. The National Gun Violence Memorial's effort to honor victims, like Roy, is so important. It reminds us that beyond the statistics, there are real people. Lighting a virtual candle for Roy is such a heartfelt way for the community and beyond to pay their respects. My thoughts are with all of Roy’s loved ones in Guadalupe. Stay strong and lean on each other in this time of sorrow.
