I’ve been following the Lanae and Ava Mouton case closely, and something keeps sticking out to me about the final moments. It’s just so hard to imagine the sheer terror Lanae must have felt when trying to protect Ava. It shows the primal instinct of a mother trying to keep her child safe, even in the direst circumstances.
As much as we focus on the horror of that day, I think it’s important to spotlight Lanae’s bravery too. Despite facing such a violent situation, she tried to shield her daughter. Her story might be a tragic one, but her last moments speak volumes about the incredible strength and love she had. My heart goes out to her family, and I hope justice is served swiftly for both Lanae and Ava.
I’ve also been thinking about the importance of domestic violence laws and how they could better protect individuals in these situations. Lanae’s story is, unfortunately, not unique, and it’s a grim reminder of how much work there is to do in safeguarding those at risk. We all could benefit from knowing how to support these crucial changes.

It's a heartbreaking reminder of how mental illness can have such severe implications when left untreated or inadequately addressed. I can't help but feel terrible for Lanae and Ava, who were taken too soon in such a terrifying way. But it also brings up the critical need for better mental health resources and intervention, especially for those with known histories of violence.
