I've been following the case of Gabriel Sotelo, and something that really strikes me is the sheer randomness of it all. It's terrifying how someone can be driving down the highway, just going about their day, and then everything changes in an instant because of someone else's reckless behavior. I can't even begin to imagine what Gabriel's family and the young boy's family are going through right now. Seeing this kind of violence unfold in the community must be incredibly jarring. It just highlights how urgent the conversation about reducing gun violence is - lives can be changed so irrevocably in a blink of an eye. I hope the community surrounds the victims' families with support and that they find some peace amid this chaos. It's just so senseless and devastating.

Has anyone else noticed how eerily close this incident was to the community Gabriel grew up in? It's so unsettling to think that a seemingly random act of violence can happen right in your own backyard. Avondale isn’t supposed to be the kind of place where you worry about becoming a victim of such senseless crime. I didn’t know Gabriel personally, but from the outpouring of love and support for his family, it’s clear that he was someone who touched many lives. I hope the legal process brings some sort of closure to his family and friends. It's hard to find peace when someone you care about is taken in such a devastating way. Remembering Gabriel and how his light continues to shine in the community through the stories shared by those close to him. Sending all my love to his family and the brave 14-year-old who is on his road to recovery.
