I've been following the case of Doris Aguilar, and it's just so unsettling to think about how someone can be relentlessly stalked despite taking several measures to protect themselves. I can't even imagine how exhausting and terrifying it must have been for Doris to feel like she couldn’t escape Cuellar, even after changing gyms multiple times. The aspect that really stands out to me is the failure of the system to protect someone like Doris. She did the right thing by reporting him, and yet he managed to continue his obsession. What more could she have possibly done? It seems like there needs to be a significant change in how stalking cases are handled to prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future. Her family, friends, and community must be aching for justice and answers. I truly hope that this case sheds some light on the importance of taking stalking seriously, and perhaps it could lead to stronger protections for victims in similar situations. Doris deserves justice, and her light deserves to be remembered for all the positivity she brought into the world. Sending love to all who knew and loved her. ?
