I've been thinking a lot about the Bellevue Sonic shooting and just keep coming back to Nathan Pastrana's family. I can't imagine the pain of losing someone so young and with so much potential. It’s hard not to feel an overwhelming sense of empathy for them. Just from what I've read, he seemed like someone who brought positivity wherever he went and touched so many lives in the community. In a time when they should be grieving, they're pulled into a lengthy legal nightmare. I can't help but wonder if pleas for mental health evaluations truly honor Nathan and Ryan’s memories, though I understand the complexity of justice. It's just such an awful situation all around. I was also struck by how the Bellevue community rallied with fundraisers to support the victims' families. It's a small comfort, but it shows how much Nathan and Ryan were loved and how deeply they impacted those around them. If any of you are from the area and attended these events, I'd love to hear how the community is holding up. Things like this make me wish for more kindness and understanding in the world.
