I came across the details of Larry Darnell Thompson’s case, and just wanted to take a moment to reflect on the role technology played that night. It’s striking how the ShotSpotter system was able to quickly alert law enforcement to the gunfire. While there’s tons of debate about the effectiveness and cost of these systems, in this instance, it seemingly provided a rapid response time. I wonder if better technology or quicker action could truly make a difference in saving lives in situations like Larry’s. My heart goes out to his family and friends who have been caught up in such a sudden and violent event. It must be unimaginably difficult dealing with a loss like this while seeing the involvement of such young suspects in the crime. How do we stop this cycle?
