Allen Douglas Alderman was 52 when he was found dead at his Billings-area home on January 3, 2014. A lifelong resident of the Billings and Lockwood region, Alderman worked as a construction laborer and rode motorcycles; people who knew him remembered his readiness to help friends and neighbors. He was survived by his mother, two brothers, and a newborn daughter.
The death prompted an immediate homicide investigation. Authorities arrested Martin Pond after Pond contacted a Billings pastor and was taken into custody at the church; Pond was booked into the Yellowstone County Detention Facility on a deliberate homicide charge. A key witness in the case died by suicide in October 2014, a development that complicated the prosecution’s case.
Anyone who knew Alderman, his routines, or had information relevant to his death is asked to come forward.
