Cassandra Dean Morrison, 45, was found dead on the side of a road in Jefferson City, Montana, on July 23, 2017, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. An autopsy confirmed her death was a homicide.
Investigators identified 32-year-old Christopher Ray Phillips as a suspect. A few days after Morrison’s body was discovered, police in Missoula tried to stop a vehicle carrying Phillips. Officers heard a single gunshot from inside the car; Phillips was found to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office inquiry later concluded the Missoula Police Department was not at fault, and with Phillips’ death the investigation into Morrison’s murder was effectively closed.
Are there details about Cassandra’s last known movements or anyone who saw her in Jefferson City that could help clarify what happened?
