On January 25, 2018, 21-year-old Shania Lynn Raymond, a White/Caucasian woman, was found dead in her Miles City, Montana, residence of multiple gunshot wounds. Another 21-year-old, Travis Doss, was found at the scene with a gunshot wound to his head; he was taken to a hospital and later arrested and charged with deliberate homicide in connection with Raymond’s death.
Doss told authorities Raymond shot him first and said he returned fire, firing 18 rounds into her. Charges against Doss were later dismissed without prejudice because a backlog at the state crime lab prevented timely testing of key evidence. The dismissal and Doss’s release left Raymond’s family without a resolution and prompted questions in the community about how self-defense claims are handled in cases like this.
Anyone who knew Shania, Travis, or who has information about the events in Miles City on January 25, 2018, is asked to come forward.
