Richard Allen Bowers, a 44-year-old Caucasian man, was shot and killed on December 31, 2019, during an altercation at a residence in Big Timber, Montana. A firearm was discharged in the dispute, and Sweet Grass County deputies responded to the scene; the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation assisted in the ensuing inquiry.

Authorities identified a person of interest who was taken into custody as the primary suspect. That individual was arrested and charged in connection with Bowers’ death as the investigation moved into the courtroom phase. The shooting ended the life of a man mourned by his family and community.
