David Byron Sessions, a 52-year-old Caucasian man, was fatally shot in Lewistown, Montana on March 14, 2020. Local authorities quickly identified a person of interest and sought 47-year-old Douglas John Foster in connection with the killing. A deliberate homicide warrant was issued for Foster and law enforcement warned he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Foster was described as an avid outdoorsman familiar with the remote Missouri Breaks and was believed capable of hiding in unoccupied buildings along the Missouri River. His 1995 green Toyota Tacoma with a flatbed was reported leaving the residence where the shooting occurred, and residents in Fergus, Petroleum, Garfield, Blaine and Phillips counties were alerted during the manhunt.
The search ended the next day in Dillon, Montana, after a citizen reported a suspicious man matching the suspect’s description. During an attempted traffic stop, Foster reportedly turned his vehicle and two gunshots were heard; officers fired and Foster was killed. The officers were uninjured and the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation took charge of the officer-involved shooting; the officers who fired were placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
If anyone has information about David Sessions, his movements before March 14, 2020, or the events that led to the shooting, please share what is known.
