A Christmas Eve altercation turned fatal in Stevensville, Montana. Just after midnight on Christmas morning 2020, 39-year-old John Harvey Komotios was shot multiple times inside an apartment on 5th Street and died at the scene. Authorities say no one else was present in the apartment when deputies arrived.

Ravalli County deputies arrested 33-year-old Trevor Matthew Looney of Stevensville and charged him with deliberate homicide and possession of dangerous drugs. Investigators report Looney told deputies the two men had a confrontation during which Komotios threatened him, that a standoff followed, and that he fired his handgun until it jammed; he also said he rolled Komotios onto his back after the shooting. Authorities continue to investigate the events that led to the shooting.

If anyone has information about Looney’s movements or interactions with Komotios before the shooting, contact the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office.
