Has anyone else looked into the role that the community played during Claude Dallas's time on the run? I've been reading up on this case, and it's pretty astonishing how many locals seemed to either sympathize with him or turn a blind eye. It’s clear that he had this mystique about him, embodying that rugged, independent spirit. I can’t help but think about the families of William Harlan and Conley Elms during those tense months – it must’ve been terrifying and deeply unsettling knowing a fugitive linked to their loved ones' deaths was hiding out nearby with potential support. It just makes you wonder what was going through people's minds. Did they fear him, or did they genuinely see him as some kind of folk hero? Either way, I hope people learned from this and that similar tragedies can be prevented in the future. Thoughts?
