Does anyone else find it chilling how close-knit communities like New Boston were back in the 1850s, and yet something as horrific as Sevilla's murder could occur? I keep thinking about how Sevilla was just walking to school with her brother. It was supposed to be an ordinary day. How does a place move on from that kind of trauma? I've read that Henry Sargent was a known figure in the community. His family lived nearby, and people probably never imagined he could be capable of such violence. This must have been so difficult for the town to process. I can only imagine what it was like for Sevilla’s family and her brother, who witnessed the confrontation. It's a reminder of how dangerous it can be to misjudge those we think we know. If anyone has visited Sevilla's grave in New Boston, I'd be curious to know if the town continues to remember her. It seems like a significant piece of history that shouldn't be forgotten.
