It’s hard to wrap my head around how something like this could happen here in Newfane. I've lived here for over 30 years, and it’s the sort of place where everyone knows everyone, and we all feel safe. Helen Prescott was such a sweet lady; I remember seeing her at the local market now and then, always with a kind word and a smile. This tragedy adds a layer of fear in our seemingly untouched community. The fact that someone could commit such a horrendous act against an elderly woman like Helen, who by all accounts had a peaceful life, just baffles me. I read somewhere that the police are considering all angles, but it makes you wonder about how well we actually know the people around us. I hope they find whoever did this soon and that Helen’s family can find some peace. This isn't something that should be happening in any town, let alone ours. Let's all stay alert and support each other through this.
