Has anyone else looked into the role of the press in this case? It seems like media accounts from that era were all over the place, with varying numbers of injuries and fatalities reported. I'm perplexed by how some reports mention different victims or omit certain events entirely. It's so hard to figure out what really happened when you can't rely on consistent information. It must have been equally confusing and distressing for the affected families and the community back then. I can't imagine trying to get accurate news and updates in such a tense and chaotic situation. It would be interesting to know if any local papers from Randolph County or nearby areas archived more detailed or accurate coverage of those days.
