Does anyone else find it incredibly brave that Marshal Joseph W. Smith was still committed to his duty even at such great personal risk? Reading about his attempt to arrest that robbery suspect back in 1910 makes me truly appreciate what law enforcement officers face daily. It's devastating to think about his family and the Bay Minette community who lost a devoted public servant. Even though the suspect was caught and punished, it doesn't erase the deep loss felt by those who knew and loved Marshal Smith. How do you think the local community healed after such a tragic event back in the day?
