I've been thinking a lot about the missing trunk in the Mars Hill case. It's so haunting to imagine that after all these years, it was found by hunters miles away from the Roberts' farmhouse, yet it held nothing but an old suit. Eula must have felt such devastation to return and find her family gone and something that might have held answers or maybe some semblance of closure missing. The idea that local rumors spoke of a small fortune never being there makes you question the real motive. Was it just pure greed that day, or something more personal? The missing piece feels so elusive, almost as if it’s taunting everyone who looks into the case. I can’t help but feel deeply for the Roberts family, knowing their search for justice and answers never really found resolution.
Hi everyone,
I recently came across the story of the Mars Hill murders from 1980, and it's really been on my mind. What's struck me is the sheer courage of Eula Verlin Roberts, the sister who discovered her siblings after this brutal crime. I can't even begin to imagine the horror she faced stepping into that scene alone. It's so easy to discuss the details of these cases from a distance, but Eula lived it, and her strength in the aftermath is nothing short of incredible. She not only had to cope with such an unimaginable loss but also the fear and uncertainty as the community grappled with the fact that their loved ones' murderer was still out there.
I also found it so tragic how the family’s struggle didn’t end even after learning about their missing family trunk had been found miles away. I wonder how much anguish that added to their grief. And yet, through all these years, there’s been no justice, and Eula carries those memories without closure. Does anyone know if there have been recent movements or anyone still working actively on this case? It’s heart-wrenching to know there are families out there still without answers.
Hoping somewhere, somehow, they get the justice they deserve. Would love to hear other thoughts or information anyone might have.
