Rashawn Winslow was 18 when he was found with multiple gunshot wounds on a first-floor landing of an apartment building in the 200 block of W Street NW in LeDroit Park, Washington, D.C., at about 1:40 a.m. on September 11, 2007. Despite an investigation led by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Violent Crimes Branch, no arrests have been made and the case remains unsolved.
Rashawn’s family moved him out of LeDroit Park two years earlier, first to South Carolina and then to College Park, Maryland, because his mother Dorothea Winslow was worried about negative influences. He continued to return to his old neighborhood to visit friends. Family members noted a change in his attitude in the years before his death; a cousin who is a D.C. peace activist tried to help by finding him work or encouraging him to return to school, without success.
A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Can anyone who knew Rashawn or who was in LeDroit Park that night help with information?
