Has anyone looked into the possibility of Stephen Walter Hurley having experience with the Appalachian Trail prior to his disappearance? I know from personal experience that McAfee's Knob is a pretty well-traveled and challenging spot. If he was an experienced hiker, the situation could be quite different from someone who wandered off without much knowledge of the area. Additionally, I’m curious if there were any reports from hikers or rangers at that time who might recall seeing him on the trail. It seems like someone might have encountered him, especially given how popular the spot can be. If anyone has insights into any past hiking trips he might've taken, that information could be crucial in understanding what went wrong and where he might have gone off track.
