I’ve been thinking a lot about the community in Cuba, Alabama, since the tragic deaths of James Kirksey and DeMarcus Ruffin. Attending a funeral is always such an emotional experience, but I heard from a friend who was there that the services held at Morning Star Baptist Church were particularly moving. Reverend Willie D. Wilson is said to have given a heartfelt eulogy that truly captured the spirit and impact of James and DeMarcus in their community. I can't help but reflect on how their friends and family pulled together during such a painful time, leaning on each other for strength and comfort. It’s clear that both men were very cherished, and the loss goes beyond just their immediate family—it’s felt throughout the entire community. That's why I’m hoping that more people come forward with any information that might help the investigation. We owe it to them and their loved ones to find answers and hopefully bring some sense of peace.
