I've been thinking a lot about the tragic case of Kathleen Lundy and one thing that strikes me over and over is how this horrific event has shone a light on the safety of elderly people living on their own. It's unsettling to think that someone who had lived a life of kindness and respect could be targeted in her own home. I'm especially concerned about the older folks in our community and wonder if anything more can be done to protect them, or perhaps we can start looking out more for our neighbors. It would be great to hear about any local initiatives that aim to increase security measures for seniors. Does anyone know if Huntsville has stepped up in this regard? Her family and friends must miss her terribly, and I can't imagine what they're going through, but maybe awareness and change can be a small step toward honoring her memory.
