I’ve been thinking about the timing of Juliet Stuart Poyntz's disappearance. Why did it take until December 1937 for her disappearance to be reported to the police, and what made an investigation start only in January 1938? It's difficult to comprehend why there was such a delay. Was it because of the political climate at the time, given her ties to the Communist Party, or perhaps there was initial reluctance from those who knew her to raise the alarm due to fear of reprisal or disbelief? Someone with her prominence going missing unnoticed for months seems odd. I also find it intriguing that her untouched savings account and manuscripts suggest she intended to return shortly, which makes the fact that no one realized she was missing for so long even more puzzling. Any thoughts on why this delay might have occurred?
