I've been mulling over the terrain difficulty of that Awini Trail and how it might have played a role in John Cameron Reece's disappearance. From what I gather, it's a pretty rugged path with steep inclines, especially challenging during Hawaii's rainstorms. Considering that a significant storm rolled in shortly after he started his hike, I can't help but wonder if the weather turned a tricky situation into a dangerous one. Given how experienced a hiker John was, it's possible he might have been lulled into a false sense of security, thinking he could handle it, particularly since he was prepared with camping gear and planned for those four days. But, those unexpected weather conditions can surprise even the best-prepared trekkers. Does anyone here know more about the trail conditions back then or have similar hiking experiences in that region? I feel it's crucial to understand how those trails can shift in adverse weather. It breaks my heart to think a nature enthusiast got caught in such a perilous situation.
