Does anyone else find it odd that Zarabozo stuck to his story about Archer committing the murders even when it clearly wasn't working in his favor? If Archer really was threatening him, wouldn’t he have found more opportunities to escape or alert authorities immediately after they were found on the life raft? I realize fear can be incredibly paralyzing, especially in traumatic situations, but in a scenario like this, wouldn't it make more sense for Zarabozo to have cooperated with investigators right away? I’m curious if any evidence supported Zarabozo’s claims of duress during the investigation or trial. Has anyone come across details in court documents or interviews that might explain his motivations or mindset during the ordeal?
Just came across this case again and I'm puzzled about one angle. Why did Archer and Zarabozo think they could pull this off so close to U.S. waters? Being in a life raft only 50 miles off Cuba doesn’t exactly scream good planning if you're trying to flee. Did they really think no one would notice a missing boat and crew? It's almost like they didn’t have a solid escape route. Anyone have insights into their state of mind or any more info on how they were planning to disappear in Cuba? Seems like such a reckless plan to me.
